A Zentangling Mum

This week, I'm handing over to my Mum, Nancy. She volunteered to write a post for me and I'm very proud to be able to showcase some of her wonderful artwork here. Thank you, Mum.

Hi, I am Gill’s Mum and I have always been a doodler too! Newspapers, letters and the calendar tend to get covered with pattern, particularly during long telephone conversations.

I went to an arts and crafts exhibition about a year ago and watched a demonstration of Zentangle. This seemed to turn “organised doodling” into an art form and I soon got hooked. Since then I have spent many hours happily Zentangling! It is very  relaxing and creative at the same time.

I discovered lots of basic patterns, some from the internet and others I just made up myself. Starting with these patterns I soon found that various degrees of shading brought the designs to life. The next step was to take recognisable shapes, fill them with patterns and use these designs for cards etc.

I bought a book of (copyright free) Art Nouveau designs and this seemed a great combination – Zentangled Art Nouveau! Now I started to create many more designs and also introduced a splash of bright colour into an otherwise black and white design.

These have now been used for all sorts of cards! This seems to be doodling with a purpose!
